Auditions
Who needs to audition:
All new members of the Wind Symphony need to audition. Current members do not need to re-audition, unless they feel their playing level has change significantly or their chair placement is unsatisfactory.
What you need to do:
Sign up for an audition time (click link below). This audition should only take fifteen minutes of your time. You may either email the director for an in-person audition time or send a link to a video recording of your audition.
The audition will:
- Determine your level of playing for entrance and chair placement
- Help you facilitate your registration for the class
- Allow you check out an instrument and/or instrument locker if necessary
Auditions take place during the first week of school (or via video submission) and consist of the following items:
- A slow scale of your own choice, two to three octaves (for tone quality)
- Two prepared selections of your own choice. One slow and one fast (for expression and technique). You may obtain some materials from the Music Department if necessary.
- For percussionists, perform a selection in the areas of snare drum, timpani, and mallets. If you are proficient in ones or two areas, prepare for those areas only.
